Sonnet
A drift of cotton piled in lazy heaps,
The sky's discarded wool and unmade bed.
Each tufted mound in lazy motion sleeps,
While underbellies hold shadows gray and spread.
They gather weight like laundry left to dry,
Or sheep that wander through a field of blue.
The sun bleaches out their edges from the sky,
A lazy crowd with nowhere else to do.
The wind provides a shove, a gentle nudge,
To push the fluff across the empty space.
They do not storm or thunder, merely judge,
With slow indifference on a sunlit face.
The day dissolves in vapor's soft design,
A puffy world that holds no plot but line.
