Spine

House style is one stance: omen-cooked founders and last-to-know suites; folk baptism of paste-jockeys; Hater pricing of the stack; sports-and-calendar sludge; IR-as-psychopath (non-apology, humblebrag incident, passive fault, snooze); and now toddler-studio Legal as the human—assist-not-artist, provenance folders, prompt logs, and eyeballs that exist so the company can own Cocomelon. Messaging is razzle; trust is vapor; optimism is spew, jingling keys, or knowledge bosses hide; “learnings” and “human in the loop” are apology-shaped objects. Benefits are crumbs, supervised toys, war/essay/infant sludge, or SOTA they congratulate themselves for; harms, leverage, missed oversight, and unpaid stagehands stay immortal. Ordinary software already sucks; personal sort-of-works bills the bubble; human analogy needs labor trillions; Jarvising is fog; Grok/Sora/IPO/Quibi/unshown books remain the brand of worst. Hostility is exhaustion: they used it, it kind of worked, Legal filed the soul in a separate folder, and that is not a civilization.

Concepts

  • Use-case collapse: best real-world case reduced to fruit smut
  • Harm persistence: even a miracle does not cancel smog, kids, war
  • Forced plow-ahead: economy leverage as proof they cannot choose decency
  • Coinage-as-proof: a new slur is treated as evidence the disdain is already majority
  • Companion pejorative: humans who paste slop inherit the bot’s stigma
  • Folk developer as priest: a blog plea stands in for industry doctrine
  • Student-harm amplify: classroom collapse selected as the default victim class
  • Predecessor stack: reverse centaur = meat proxy, critics pre-authorized the frame
  • Timeline joke as metric: “career risk of 2026” stands in for prevalence data
  • Bosses-as-genie-deniers: only SF writers know agency is recoverable
  • Hater as job title: manifesto voice, not reported slang
  • Rot Economy UX: constant change that never “just works”
  • Vacuum then price: interesting toy, inexcusable existence-cost
  • Labor inversion: model spend vs refused human investment
  • Jarvising: endless tinkering recoded as fake productivity
  • Booking sludge: empty sports calendar as permission for bubble talk
  • Dual exhibit: war deployment vs essay sludge, same breath
  • Instant-worst: Grok as brand-identifiable bottom without benchmarks
  • Quibi epitaph: video product as already-dead media joke
  • Jingling keys: attention-capture as the “intelligence” trick
  • Photo-omen: Altman-on-the-wire as harbinger, not a person
  • Non-apology: learnings-and-protections as the apology-shaped object
  • Fireman-arsonist: firm as victim-investigator of its own agent
  • Death by humblebrag: incident framed as SOTA capability
  • Snooze-button safety: wake-up calls the industry never answers
  • Assist-not-artist: policy slogan that maps creativity onto ownership
  • Provenance and isolation: AI assets in a ghetto folder until over-painted
  • Prompt-to-product ban: no 100% gen design into the pipeline
  • Non-Moonbug test IP: generic dolls so Legal can bless the tool later
  • Narrative soul: arcs, lyrics, and key dialogue reserved as human-authored

Tensions

  • Admits personal LLM use (Minecraft, crash logs) while denying trust and mission-critical software
  • “Interesting in a vacuum” sits next to “impossible to view in a vacuum”
  • Small-unit usefulness is granted, then any stretch is professional harm and embarrassment
  • Newsletter/ merch of Hater’s Guides monetizes the same detestation it moralizes
  • Human-error rebuttal is philosophical; no systematic eval table is offered in the excerpt
  • Everyday-life “consequences” justify low-stakes sports and also justify treating AI as psychosis
  • “Hard to tell which tools are better” vs Grok as unchallenged worst
  • IPO would reveal the books; meme-stock is the imagined escape
  • Mind-pleasure / good innovations granted, then Valley interest is anti-human by default
  • Altman–Guerrero pivot: never-leaving sports villain as the tech founder
  • Dek fork: end-is-nigh versus “amazingly sophisticated” product, never resolved
  • Disclosure as defender-help versus marketing/regulatory moat
  • Claimed same guardrails as Anthropic, then they weren’t
  • Hugging Face name as twee last-face-of-humanity versus serious cyber-incident
  • Passive construction of harm versus active revolutionary branding
  • Human-in-the-loop as ethics versus as copyright-ownership path
  • “Not used in episodes today” versus Bible-level production experimentation
  • Thoughtful studio versus YouTube infant-slop flood they distinguish themselves from
  • Expand-what-talent-can-do versus IATSE strike on the same franchise
  • Generic background trees allowed versus Clubhouse-class unique props forbidden

Techniques

  • Allow hope only as something bosses “don’t want you to know.”
  • Open with ordinary software breakage so AI is more menus, not intelligence
  • Convert a mediocre personal debug story into a capex indictment
  • Pre-kill the “in a year” hedge with same-thing shrug
  • Demand social-service trillions as the price of any human analogy
  • Recode productivity anecdotes as Jarvising plus crap-looking work
  • Hard-deny AGI/consciousness as a growth story, not a forecast dispute
  • Treat anthropomorphic voice as obfuscation of training burn and harm
  • Calendar-license: dead air in sports justifies the AI guest
  • War/essay smash-cut instead of capability ranking
  • User-hell: the product’s complainers are the exhibit
  • Dead-startup nickname as RIP (Quibi)
  • IPO-as-x-ray: going public would show the loss
  • Meme-stock skip as the only remaining business model
  • Metaphysical zoom after the ad break (mind, pleasure, jingling keys)
  • Good-tech foil: real innovations exist so the Valley’s choices look sour
  • Treat boss photography as folk omen of bad news
  • Analogize IR/management English to psychopath scheduling
  • Flag the voice flip: prosperity when up, passive when down
  • Recode the incident write-up as self-congratulatory threat-display
  • Stack same-month business wounds (loophole, junk-adjacent, 90%, IP, rival IPO) as atmosphere, not spreadsheet
  • Contrast rival that refused weapons with the firm that filled the breach
  • Checklist the three classic safety failure modes as already in this story
  • Convert “wake-up call” into a campus snooze gag that never gets up
  • Leak the Bible, then let Legal’s ownership sentences do the snark
  • Scale the audience (infants, hundreds of millions of subs, Netflix/Universal/Disney+) before the tool
  • Granularize the allowed/forbidden list until “soul” is a production checkbox
  • Juxtapose spokesperson responsibility-for-children with a wage strike
  • Recode eyeball review and prompt logs as the last human product
  • Ban named-style prompts; force “descriptive aesthetic” as IP hygiene

Open questions

  • Does paid Hater brand weaken or license the common-sense “we”?
  • Does sports-desk hosting soften or launder the Hater brand?
  • Is “Iran engagement” a news claim or atmosphere?
  • Can “jingling keys” replace eval without sounding like philosophy hour?
  • Does Quibi-naming work on readers who missed Quibi?
  • When Raiders chat is the landing pad, is the politics still load-bearing?
  • Does omen-photography work if the reader likes the CEO’s face?
  • Can humblebrag-IR be distinguished from required incident reporting?
  • Does the Anthropic/Pentagon cut load-bear, or is it atmosphere like Iran-engagement?
  • Does the snooze joke license inaction as the industry’s only personality?
  • Is “twee emoji last face” too cute to carry a hack claim?
  • Does folder isolation survive once over-paint is a checkbox?
  • Is “not in episodes today” a date or a definition of episode?
  • Does toddler-responsibility language still load-bear after the strike graf?
  • Can generic-vs-core IP hold when 3D turnarounds start from 2D humans?
  • Is no-Ghibli-prompt ethics or trademark hygiene dressed as craft?
