When the page is no longer a midterm scare product, the ecology is personnel: who is allowed to speak, who is baited, who is out of time, and which institutions leap. A prior incentive engine still explains why a fluke senator needs a name; this layer prices the surrounding market, not the scare.

Institutions select for first-name innuendo because it is cheap, deniable, and pack-ready. The columnist does not prove the room; she treats the wink as self-evident and lets cable’s leap certify that the line was built to thrill. Private-aide silence is then filled with “is said to” friend talk—attribution of mood, not invented access.

Selection also decides how much body and family enter the innocence inventory.
